Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday, it is nice to know that I have so many loving people supporting me.
My birthday included some traditional hazing, an event called ponding, in which everyone throws water at you out of a bucket. It was pretty fun. I reieved a few gifts of massages and candy, and got to go to Accra's enourmous soccer stadium to watch a game. All in all it was a very good birthday.
School starts today, even though most classes have not even announced when they will take place. In ghana most people dress semi-formally to go to class, so I have done the same, which is different than I am used to.
Some of my friends have been getting robbed, one at tazer-point and one from his room while he was sleeping. So we all have to be on our toes.
I am taking 5 geography calsses and an intro to drumming class. The geography classes include Tourism, rural resource development, hydrology, and african geography. They all sound pretty interesting.

Hey Forrest,
I have been thinking about your housing situation regarding the broken doors and general lack of security. you may have to take the initiative and hire the repair done yourself. Out of pocket as it were! I would go to the maintenance Dept first off and only talk to the very head of teh maintenance Dept. describe to him the makeshift arrangement of the doors and explain that it is unsatisfactory for you-a University Student From Abroad. Then ask him how much of a donation to the school maintenance dept is required to have the doors repaired and made secure. Be quite formal and proper in your
approach! it may work! Do not giv him the $$ then but split it with your roomies. Bargain him down. then if they do it right give a tip!
If they steadfastly refuse then go to town to the locksmith and hire him to arrange the work done. of course everyone may charge too much but then you know what the score is at least! Bargain hard!!!
I recall that when I was in India most people had never seen anything "done right". The chaos that they have been born gives a perspctive actaully causes locals to think we are really wierd to be trobled by many of the things that they see as absolutley normal! Of course most of them have few physical assets to guard as it were! Anyway just a thought for your security from good old A-town!

Forrest!
I love reading about your experiences, as interesting, scary and incredible as they have been so far. I am glad you are adjusting to life over there and haven't caught malaria. I have e-mailed Mike a few times and will send you an e-mail soon too. Life is good down under but I am swamped with work at the moment. It's good to hear the birthday went well!
